May 31, 1925 - January 2, 2013
Following a brief battle with cancer, Ann Yackel (nee Hays) passed peacefully with family at her bedside in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on Tuesday, January 2, 2013, at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Gladys Hays (nee Phillips); her husband of 51 years, Reuben Yackel; and her sister Thelma Kreutzer. Born and raised in Lipton, Saskatchewan, Ann married her childhood sweetheart Reuben Yackel in 1944. They lived in Lipton where they were both extremely active community members. They owned and operated the Lipton Garage until 1973 when they moved to Theodore, Saskatchewan, where they purchased the Theodore Motor Inn. Ann and Reuben retired to Yorkton in 1977 and enjoyed a busy retirement of golfing, fishing, camping and winters spent in the southern U.S.A. with many friends and relatives. When Reuben passed away in 1995, Ann returned to Lipton before making Moose Jaw her home from 2003 until her passing. Ann was an active member and volunteer at the Cosmo Senior Citizen Centre and enjoyed attending St. Aidan Anglican Church, both in Moose Jaw. She spent countless happy hours walking and visiting in Moose Jaw's Crescent Park. Ann is survived by daughters: Sharon (Lawrence Campbell) of Moose Jaw, Maureen (Brian Materi) of Lipton, Cynthia (Mark Lecours) of Choctaw, Oklahoma and son Ivan (Twila) of Star City, SK; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great- grandchildren. A celebration of Ann's life will take place in the Lipton Community Hall, Lipton, SK., on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Duncan McLean and Rev. Beverley McLean officiating. Interment in the Lipton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann's memory to St. John's Anglican Church Memorial Fund, Box 1222 Fort Qu'Appelle, SK, S0G 1S0 or to a charity of choice.
