SURRING, Bertha "Bert" Elizabeth
(nee Ward)
Bertha "Bert" Elizabeth late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2012. Predeceased by her husband, Lyle (1959); parents, Inge and Albert Ward; stepfather, Sidney Burton; sisters, Grace Irving, Mae (Ken) Morris, Dorothy (Johnny) Fricker; brothers, Truman (Mary) Ward, Fred (Bernice) Ward; brothers- in-law, Elmer (Fanny) Surring, Gilbert Surring; sisters-in-law, Sylvia (Harry) Birnie, Beatrice (Elmer) Johnston, Ruth (Jim) Anderson, Violet (Barney) Johnsrude and Ethel (Cecil) Fletcher. Bert is survived by her devoted and loving son, Dardan (Wendy); grandchildren, Ariane (Greg) Nelson, Jennifer (Jamie) Burgess, DJ Surring (fiancé Jennifer); great- grandchildren, Edan, Brynn, Roan; sister-in- law, Heneriette Ward and brother-in-law, Merv Irving all of Regina, SK; sister-in-law, Pearl Surring of Weyburn, SK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Lawson, SK in 1919 and growing up in southern Saskatchewan, as well as living through the "dirty thirties" made her a strong and loving person. Over the years Bert worked for Robert Simpson Ltd and Sears Catalogue Center before becoming office manager of the F.W. Woolworth store in the then new Golden Mile Shopping Center. Early on, Bert's mother got her interested in the Rebekah's which lead to her serving in all the offices including Noble Grand (1974) and Past Noble Grand of Empire Lodge. Bert or Grandma to everyone, spent her entire life serving and helping others. Her faith was important to her and lived by the proverb "… unto others as you would have them do unto you…." which brought her rewards far more valuable than payment. Thank you to the kind and caring staff of Extendicare Parkside, especially her caregivers from the North Wing. You are very special, amazing people. With Mom's passing we have a very large void in our family that will never be filled. However with the multitude of memories of her beautiful soul and genuine kind feelings to all she met, that void will lessen as time goes by. A Funeral Service full of LOVE and RESPECT will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset United Church, 177 Sunset Drive, Regina SK with Rev. Kathy Platt officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Ave. E., Regina, SK. Should friends so wish, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Bert to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St., Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
In Friendship, Love and Truth.
