Brent Murray Howie
June 11, 1967 - April 17, 2012
With heavy hearts, we regret to advise that Brent Howie left our world in the same manner as he entered it - prematurely. Brent passed away on April 17, 2012, at the age of 44, with his family by his side. Brent was born in Regina on June 11, 1967, the eldest of three children born to Dave and Bernice Howie. He became the second of three generations to begin school at Herchmer School in Regina. His education continued in Red Deer for a brief time, in Prince Albert for five years and ended in Regina with graduation from Thom Collegiate. At age 16 Brent began his career in the food services industry as a busboy, but with perseverance and a strong work ethic, he soon became a Sous Chef and went on to earn his Journeyman Chef's Certificate. He became a master of his trade, at ease whether cooking or grilling for small family gatherings or catering for hundreds. After spending many years preparing food at various locations in Regina (most notably as Chef/ Food Services Manager for 17 years at Regina Exhibition Park), as well as in Carlyle and Kenosee, he decided to try his hand at sales, becoming a valued Sales Representative with Centennial Food Services until his untimely passing. Even as a young boy Brent was passionate about sports whether giving it his all as a participant or as a spectator. As a result of his participation in hockey over the years, Brent made many lifelong friends and unknowingly (until they met at a family reunion) played with a member of his extended family. Until he became ill, Brent was still actively involved in both hockey and baseball leagues. Brent lived life to the fullest, meeting it head-on, willing to try almost anything, no challenge too great. Brent was a proud and devoted father, grandfather, son and brother who loved spending time with his family and friends, often putting others wants and needs above his own. His easy smile, big heart, sense of humour, generous and helpful nature endeared him to all. Left to cherish his memory are his partner, Leah Christie & her parents Larry & Pat Christie; daughters Meaghan and Kaylin; grandson Issiah; parents Dave & Bernice; brother Scott; sister Teddi (Daryll) Malek; uncles and aunts, Vern & Marge Howie, Bob & Bertha Kerr & Geraldine Howie; two great-aunts, Julia McBurney & Sylvia Ladwig; numerous cousins, nieces & nephews; the mother of his girls, Lori Howie; a large extended family; a multitude of friends and acquaintances, as well as many chosen uncles & aunts. Waiting with open arms are his grandparents, Elias & Jane Howie, Ted & Mary Ladwig; aunts & uncles, Jim and Helen (Parker) Howie, Charlie Howie, Doug and Pat Howie, Orville & Jean Scott; cousins Jim Howie, Doug Howie and Lynda Parker and chosen uncle, Murray Livingstone. Special thanks to the staff at the Pasqua and Regina General Hospitals for the kindness and care given to Brent during the last three months. The family also wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to family, friends and neighbours for their prayers and support throughout this difficult time. Your caring and generosity means more than words can say. At Brent's request no formal service will be held, however, a celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012, at 6:00 p.m., at the Turvey Centre, 6 North Armour Road, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers donations in Brent's memory may be made to a Trust Fund for his grandson, Issiah Naytowhow c/o The Royal Bank, 2441 - 7th Avenue North, Regina SK, S4R 0K4
