Donald Schiefner

SCHIEFNER-DONALD EDWARD November 19, 1936 September 16, 2008 Donald Schiefner of Kaslo, BC, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the age of 71 years. Don is survived by his loving wife Sonia; his sons, Mark (Kathy) of White Rock, BC, Kevin (Lorna) of Cranbrook, BC; his daughters Brenda (Martin) of Okotoks, AB, and Lee of Calgary, AB; Don is also survived by his six grandchildren, Clayton, Tanner, Jackie, Sutton, Carson and Samara; his twin brother Doug (Joanne) and younger brother Dick (Betty Ann) both of Milestone, SK; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ed and Verna Schiefner and his sister Faye Craig. Don was born in Milestone, Saskatchewan and attended school there until grade 10. He then moved to Regina and attended Luther College where he excelled in track and field. This is also where he met Sonia and they were married on September 26, 1959. They moved to Calgary, AB where Don worked for Geophoto as a photogrammatrist until 1975. He then worked for the Energy Resources Conservation Board until his retirement in 1994. Don and Sonia built their dream home in Schroeder Creek just outside of Kaslo, BC and moved there permanently in 1996. Don loved flying airplanes, fishing, fixing small engines, having his family and friends come to visit. He especially like having the grandkids visit and would take them fishing on Kootenay Lake and show them all his card tricks. Sadly, Don was diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2005 and fought a brave battle until his death on September 16, 2008. Memorial service will be held Friday, September 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Milestone United Church, Milestone, SK.
