DEIANA, Giuseppe "Joe"
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Giuseppe "Joe" Deiana on Monday, September 11, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents Marianna Deias and Bernardino Deiana; and brothers Salvatore, Antonio, and Mario. Joe is survived by his brothers Mike (Grazia), Sebastiano (Francine) and Egidio; sister Francesca (Francesco); and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was born on November 27, 1929 in the village of Ardauli on the beautiful island of Sardinia, Italy. The second of eight children, Joe's early years were spent on the family land tending sheep and growing olives and grapes. Upon completion of his military service in Italy, he traveled and worked in Switzerland and Belgium for several years before immigrating to Canada in 1961 to join his brother Mike. Joe spent many years working in construction, mining camps, and the restaurant industry. Along the way he made many friends in Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan. In his younger years Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cards with his friends at the Italian Club in Regina. He was passionate about music and often played the guitar and sang Sardinian folk songs. At every family gathering, he would always break out into song! He loved professional wrestling and boxing, often attending the local wrestling events in Regina. In his later years, Joe always took time to visit with his family and many friends. He relished making wine with his brothers and his favorite part was drinking it while sharing in laughter. Although he never married, he was the beloved "crazy" uncle of his nieces and nephews; Marco, Mino, and Maria, and Matteo, Christina and Kayla, treating them like his own. Joe was a practical joker and would always lighten the mood in any room with his presence. He was generous to many and he lived his life according to his own rules as a free spirit. A FUNERAL MASS will be celebrated at Resurrection Roman Catholic Church, 3155 Windsor Park Road, Regina, SK on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Reception and lunch will follow at G. Marconi Canadian Italian Club, 2148 Connaught Street, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's name may be made to a charity of your choice. Family and friends are invited to sign the online obituary and tributes page at Arrangements entrusted to
