SHARP, Jack J.
January 22, 1928-November 12, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Sharp announce that he passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta surrounded by loving family. He was 89 years of age. Jack was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on January 22, 1928. He spent his working life as an entrepreneur owning and operating Western Furs and Westland Ventures, a real estate development and management company. Jack was very involved in both the Jewish and Regina community at large. Jack was chairman of the Regina Zionist Council, chairman of the Regina chapter of the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University, Chairman for the United Jewish Appeal in Regina, and a 50-year member of the B'nai Brith Lodge. Jack was a founding member and president of the Eastview Regina Rotary Club, a founding executive member of the Regina Downtown Merchants Association, member of the Advisory Board of Royal Trust (Regina), Chairman of the Regina Advisory Board for the Department of Social Services and a Commissioner and member of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission. He volunteered on many private committees including the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the Ovarian Cancer Society of Saskatchewan. In Calgary, Jack was active in United Jewish Appeal (UJA) and the Cardiac Care Unit at the University of Calgary Medical School. In 1982, Jack married his current wife of 35 years, Betty (Brody). Jack and Betty took pride in their combined family of children Deborah, Neil (Cindy), James (Helen) and Marvin (Shani) Sharp, Mark (Lynn) Brody, Debbie (Stephen) Ryder, Mitchell (Carrie) Brody and grandchildren, Rachel, Max, Eva, Drake, Dylan, Stone, Danica, Ozias, Daliah, Mirabella, Michael (Rachelle), Carly, Harry and Zoe. Jack and Betty were rarely apart throughout their marriage splitting time between Calgary and Palm Springs. They enjoyed an active and social life but most of all enjoyed each other. Jack was a kind hearted generous man who lived his life full of positivity, integrity and great joy. He was simply a "good man". Jack was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Bessie Sharp, his sister Rose Secter and his first wife Rachel (Ray) Sharp. Arrangements in care of the CHEVRA KADISHA OF CALGARY, Phone: 403-244-4717.
