MARVIN COOTE Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post from Apr. 4 to Apr. 5, 2013.

Coote, Marvin
December 12, 1925- April 3, 2013
Marvin was a husband, father, friend and craftsman.
Predeceased by brother Les, sister-in-law Jean Coote.
Marvin was born in Regina, he will be lovingly and forever remembered by his wife, Carmen of 50 years, stepdaughter Sheila (Jon), sons Stewart (Sheryn), Tyler (Shirley), daughter Stacey (Kelly). Grandchildren, Jeff (Nicole), Megan (Chris), Joanne (Quinn), Ashley, Jacob, Clint (Nicole), Alex and Chanah. Great-grandchildren Antone, Susan, Micheal, Sophie, Adalee and Karlia. He also leaves numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews to mourn.
Marvin was raised in the Bateman area, living with Cousin Cora after the passing of his mother Ruth at a young age.
Marvin joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment. After training in Regina he spent another year training in England. He served in Europe then at the end of the war was transferred to Regina Rifles Regiment until his honourable discharge.
After the war Marvin worked with his brother in a small business in the Bateman area after which he worked for Saskatchewan Highways. Later he attended Saskatchewan Tech Institute in Moose Jaw where he earned two trade tickets by 1962, one in Arc & Gas Welding, the other in Motor Vehicle Mechanics Repair. Later he moved to Prince Albert and worked for Leach and Sons. During this time he met and married Carmen Archibald. He and Carmen moved to Saskatoon, where he took employment at Saskatoon Boiler Mfg. Co. Ltd. He then worked 20 years at Sask Wheat Pool elevator on 33 Street, it later became CSP Foods. At 60 he became a Commissionaire working at Saskatoon Police Headquarters performing night watch in the cells.
In 1991 Marvin and Carmen moved to Regina. Marvin entered into retirement while Carmen continued working for the government.
In his retirement he became a skilled wood craftsman utilizing every conceivable power tool to create wood objects that were used around the house. He especially loved to do Intarsia. With intricate cuts and different woods, he mastered designs of animals that would become his niche in woodworking.
In his final years he continued to volunteer for the community and SPCA and other good causes. Marvin spent his last couple of years in the Veterans Ward 3-5 at Wascana Centre. The entire family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff at the centre for the amazing care and love they extended to our father, husband and family during this time. We wish to also acknowledge Red Cross Veterans Craft Centre where he spent many happy hours creating bird houses. Every staff member at the centre from the music therapist, recreation therapist, to the kitchen staff and house keeping, everyone treated him so well, and all the Veteran volunteers who spent time during the Wednesday Happy Hours.
Memorial Service will held at Lee's Funeral Home on Saturday April 6 at 11:00 am. Internment will be held at a later date in Bateman Saskatchewan. In Lieu of flowers donation may be made to Red Cross Veterans at Wascana or SPCA or charity of choice.
