ROBERT FRANK KANTON
September 23, 1933 - May 2, 2013
Bob passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Bob was the eldest son of Anton and Elizabeth Kanton in Melville, Saskatchewan. In his early working career he worked for the Saskatchewan Highways Department. In 1957, he married Barbara Cardiff. Following their marriage, he worked for Motorways Trucking Company for 18 years. During this period he was a member of the General Teamsters Local 362. Bob and Barb had two children, Delmar (1963) and Leanne (1965). In 1973, he moved the family to Dauphin, Manitoba where he owned and operated Dauphin Repair Centre for 29 years until his retirement in 2002. In the 70's and 80's, Bob enjoyed snowmobiling and was an original member of the Dauphin Snowmobile Club. In his retirement years, he enjoyed attending and showing his 1954 Kaiser Manhattan at many cars shows in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (nee Cardiff); son Delmar Kanton (Shannon); daughter Leanne Zary (Steve); grandson Mitchell Kanton and granddaughter Kylie Zary; sister Eunice Scrimbitt; brothers and sisters-in-law Keith and Gladys Fendick, Tony and Audrey Kutcher and Bob and Delores Cardiff as well as many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Bob's Life was held on May 6, 2013 at the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society.
