96 years
Regina, Saskatchewan
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Isabelle Hitchie announces her peaceful passing with family by her side on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the age of 96 years. She was predeceased by her parents Ellen and John Vance; sisters Gladys (in infancy), Marjorie Blakeley and Dorothy Gardiner; and her brother Clifford Vance. She was also predeceased by her husband Stan Hitchie. Isabelle is survived by her son Don Hitchie of Halifax, NS; daughters Judie Krislock and Jill (Gerry) Harris of Regina, SK; and her beloved grandchildren Ashleigh Krislock of Calgary, AB and Taylor Krislock of Saskatoon, SK, Meghan Harris (Joe) of Calgary, AB and Logan Harris- Rodonets (Scott) of Regina, SK. Isabelle was born in 1918 on the farm near Bethune, SK. After her father died in 1932, her mother moved the young family into the town of Bethune, SK. Isabelle was a graduate of Grey Nun's School of Nursing (class of 1941). She was considered for "The Florence Nightingale Award", as told by her classmate Lorna. Isabelle had a long nursing career, retiring after 42 years in 1983. Upon retirement, Isabelle remained active, taking classes at the Seniors Centre and the University of Regina Extension Centre. Her many interests included oil painting, yoga, genealogy, tai chi, knitting, quilting, gardening, and especially sewing. She was an excellent seamstress. She also travelled extensively with Elder Hostel, taking classes in most Canadian provinces and parts of the USA, England, Scotland and Ireland. She especially enjoyed her times visiting family and friends on the east and west coasts of Canada. She travelled until the age of 92. Isabelle loved spending time with her grandchildren and they have many fond memories of "Grandma". She had a fondness for animals, especially dogs. Isabelle was a special woman whose selfless and kind nature touched everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. She was adored by her children and grandchildren and up until her very last days, loved the times she was able to be with her family. The family would like to thank the staff at Santa Maria Nursing Home who provided care to Isabelle for the last two and a half years. A PRIVATE FAMILY GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be held. She will be interred in the Soldiers Plot at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations in memory of Isabelle may be made to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7. When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room;
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – but not too long
And not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me – but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone
It's all a part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me – but let me go.
