Sheila Anne Brayford
1931 - 2012
With heartfelt sadness, the family of Sheila Brayford announces her passing on April 16, 2012 in Indian Head, SK. She was predeceased last June by Mel, her loving husband of sixty years. Sheila was born in Stettler, AB on August 11, 1931 and lived in several Alberta communities before settling in 1943 with her family at Indian Head where she completed high school. After teacher training in Moose Jaw, she taught for two years in rural Saskatchewan until her marriage to Mel Brayford. They raised their family in Indian Head as well as being involved in operating a seasonal boat business in Prince Albert National Park. Once her family was grown, Sheila returned to teaching at the Indian Head High School for many years. Sheila was predeceased by her parents, R. G. (Graham) and Mabel Williams. Sheila is lovingly survived by her brother, Rhys Williams of Indian Head, daughter Susan (Richard) of Calgary, son Mark (Jennifer - Hannah, Hawkins and Halle) of Saskatoon, daughter Chris (Derwin – Keith, Neil) of Regina and daughter Jennifer (Gordon - Laura and Russell) of Indian Head. She is also survived by two aunts, Ester Williams (Camrose, AB) and Ethel Williams (Stettler, AB) as well as her brothers- and sisters-in-law Daryl and Barbara Brayford (Saskatoon), Harold Soderlund (Sault Ste. Marie, ON), Stan Macdonald (Saskatoon) and Laura Brayford (Kelowna, BC). Sheila will be fondly remembered for her friendliness and abundant energy. She was an active and dedicated volunteer at the school, the United Church, libraries, museums, and many other organizations in the two communities she called home, Indian Head and Waskesiu Lake, SK. Most recently, Sheila derived great pleasure in assisting with the establishment and operation of the museum and "shack tent" display at Waskesiu Lake. Until her recent cancer, Sheila was blessed with good health and she and Mel enjoyed many outdoor activities together in all seasons. Sheila was an avid reader, accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed doing many kinds of projects. She treasured her family and her friendships, both long-standing and recent. Her family wishes to thank friends for their support and especially Sheila's caregivers at the Regina General Hospital and the Indian Head Union Hospital. There will be a private family interment.
