Elizabeth (Betty) Empey
October 4, 1932 - November 12, 2012
The life of a gracious lady, a wonderful wife, a caring mother and grandmother with many terrific friends, passed away November 15 after a one year battle with cancer. Elizabeth (Betty) Empey (Scott) was born on a farm north of Goodwater and was raised in Alameda and Oxbow. Following schooling she trained as a nurse working at the Oxbow Hospital and later the Craik Hospital, where she met Harold and were married Nov 10, 1956. Following the birth their first child she became a devoted full time mother raising three children and training Harold. The family moved from Craik to Melville and then to Portage la Prairie, MB and in 1973 to Saskatoon. Many good friends were made in all the communities including 15 years at the cottage at the Resort Village of Shields which also became their full time home for another 15 years before moving back to Saskatoon in 2004. Betty was active in figure skating, bowling, curling, golf, cross country and downhill skiing. Participated in the UCW and worked on various Rotary activities. Although Betty had not, as a child, done any camping or fishing she soon became enthused. The family took many camping or RV'ing holidays then Betty & Harold travelled extensively, for twenty years, throughout North America. Winter holidays in Yuma became a favorite. Betty was a gracious host that could set a table for royalty. She treasured the many events with family and friends. Betty always looked at the bright side of things. Her positive attitude plus her faith, friends and family made a huge difference. Betty was predeceased by her parents Bill and Florence Scott, Brother Wally, inlaws Frank & Florence Empey and Gordon Empey. Cherishing memories are her beloved husband Harold, and a loving mother of sons. Gregory (Elizabeth) with Andy (Paula) and Zachary and Annika; Dennis (Rachel) and Kiesha, Calib, & Brooklyn; Russell (Erin); Mitchell (Corrine) and Morgan (Alyssa) and Cassidy daughter Judy (George) King, Dalas (Sara) King with Ethan, Liam; Sarah; Kathryn and son Brayden. Sister Mavis (Glen) Frederickson, Sisters in law Bernice Wahler and Beatrice Empey. Special son Hari Nair (Crystel Olivier). In addition there are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews plus many very special friends. Sincere thanks to her Doctors and nurses at the Cancer Clinic and Dr. Ken Stakiw and his terrific staff at St. Paul's Palliative Care Unit. The regular home visits by exceptional nurses from the Palliative Care services made a terrific, positive difference. The support of many friends during Betty's illness will be treasured for years. Memorial donations can be made to: Oliver Lodge 1405 Faulkner Cr. Saskatoon S7L 3R5; The Rotary Foundation c/o Garth Courtney 755 Trent Cr.
