GIROUX, Robert (Bob)
1938 - 2013
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the sudden passing of our Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather Robert (Bob) Giroux on Friday, February 1, 2013 in Sun City West, Arizona at the age of 74 years. Late of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK. Bob was born in Unity, SK July 7, 1938, and spent his childhood growing up on the family farm in Kennedy, SK. At a very young age, he began his career with Imperial Oil. Through years of hard work and dedication he successfully managed and operated a number of Esso service stations which eventually led him and his family to Fort Qu'Appelle where he purchased and operated Fort Qu'Appelle Esso with his family for over 20 years. Bob continued his service in the auto repair business with his eldest son when they opened their business Fort Towing. There he enjoyed up until his passing the many customers, friends and neighbours who dropped in to say "Hello" and have a cup of coffee, a friendly conversation or a good laugh. Bob always had a good joke to tell; he loved to laugh and make others laugh. Bob was an active member of the community being on the Chamber of Commerce, town council, was passionately involved in Rotary and also a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church. One could always find Bob proudly driving his 1966 sapphire blue Cadillac or tow truck in the Canada Day parade, flipping pancakes or selling tickets with Martha, his wife, by his side and his fellow Rotarians. Bob's short time with us was filled with his zest for life. He and Martha enjoyed trips to their condo down in Texas, going out dancing with friends, summer gatherings and barbeques with his family and his grandchildren. Bob loved the outdoors and his yard where he would spend countless hours cutting his grass and helping Martha tend to their gardens, flowerbeds and trees, anything to be out with nature in the warmth of the sun and fresh air. He also enjoyed feeding the birds and deer and got a real kick out of the squirrels that always gave him a good laugh. He was a big Roughriders fan and loved to watch football with his boys. Bob was predeceased by his mother Kathleen and father Zepherim. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha of 53 years, and their five children: Leslie (Elaine) their children Sarah, Robert and Chloe; Bradley (Karen) and their children Dana and Ashley; Brian and his children Brian Jr., Brandon and Taylor; Gordon; Karla (Dale) and their children Jesse and Cody. He is also survived by four sisters and two brothers: Kathleen (Glenn), Edna, Jean (Maurice), Betty (Garry), Ron (Patsy), Michael (Colleen), as well as many other family members and countless friends. Bob will always be remembered for who he was, a wonderful kind man, and all who knew him will miss his warm smile and laughter. Dad, you will be forever missed and loved, xoxo. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, attendees who worked effortlessly to try and save the life of our dad at the Banner DeI Webb Medical Centre, in Sun City West, Arizona. Special thanks to Nadine from Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel and Cremation Centre, Sun City West, Arizona. And a very special thank you to Uncle Ron and Aunt Patsy; words cannot express our gratitude for the care and comfort of our mom until we could fly down to be with her. At Bob's request there will not be a formal funeral service, there will be an open graveside service in the spring of 2013 with lunch to follow at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Fort Qu'Appelle, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan 279-3rd Ave N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8 or Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Box 1519 Fort Qu'Appelle, SK S0G 1S0.
