Andrew Matte was a dear husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. Born in Toronto in 1967, he spent his formative years in Ottawa and Winnipeg. His journalism career took him across Ontario, to Boston, and eventually to Regina, where he worked the past nine years as a reporter and editor for the Leader-Post and QC magazine. In 2006 he met his beloved wife, Carmelle Ottenbreit. Andrew loved his family, his work, playing hockey, tackling home renovations, scouring for a deal, listening to his favourite band Rush, and getting creative with vegetables - eating healthy was a new passion for him. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help.
Andrew passed away suddenly, at home, on Dec. 19, 2013.
He is survived by his wife Carmelle, mother Lois, brothers Aaron (Jill) and Allan (Stephanie), sisters-in-law Carrie Waggott (Anthony) and Nicole Pylatiuk (Jason), stepbrother-in-law Paul Forer, stepsister-in- law Colette Forer (Steve), father-in-law Orville Ottenbreit (Beverly) and stepfather-in-law Don Forer. Missing their Uncle Andrew are nieces Ava, Gabriela, Rosie, Sadie, Ivy and Akaya, and nephews Sam, Rhys, Thomas, Graeme and Miles. Andrew was predeceased by his father Terry Matte and nephew Cai Pylatiuk.
A gathering to celebrate Andrew's life will be held this summer, outdoors in a park - he loved being outside in the sunshine. Andrew supported the Regina Humane Society, the Outdoor Hockey League and any organization that helped children. Donations in his name are appreciated.
