May 30, 1920 ~ January 26, 2014
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Verna Smith on January 26, 2014 at the age of 93 years. She will live forever in the hearts of her daughters and their families; Marjorie (Neil) Richardson, Jeff (Catherine) Richardson, Kevin Richardson, Sandra (Jim) Klatt and Marilyn (Frank) Kipper. Verna was born near Asquith, SK on May 30, 1920 to Charles and Mae Trask. She spent her early years on a homestead near Springwater helping her father work the land. This is where her love of farming and most particularly her love for animals all began. She joined the RCAF during the 2nd World War and it was during this time that she met her husband A.C. Gordon Smith who was an RAF pilot from Scotland. They were married on December 30, 1944. Following the war the couple spent a few years overseas and then returned to Canada where they lived and raised their three daughters in Saskatchewan. Verna was a stay at home Mom until the girls were older when she had a short career as a Driver Trainer. The career may have been short but she was "training" drivers through the rest of her life. Sadly, Gordon passed away in February, 1976 and Verna filled the rest of her years sharing times and making memories with family and many good friends. Verna's passions included camping, most notably in Little Chef with her grandsons, helping on the Klatt farm, curling and sharing her life with her faithful dog (Hobbit) and her cat (Spot) companions. At the request of Verna and her family a private graveside service will be held. Verna, Mom, Grandma thank you so much for everything that you have done for your family and friends. We all share so many happy and incredible memories. We will strive to always live by your motto of Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much. Family and friends are invited to sign the online obituary and tributes page at www.regina-memorial.ca.
