DENIS CHARLES CHISHOLM
January 16, 1924 - January 3, 2015
Denis passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years with his devoted wife of 67 years, Edith, and his family by his bedside. He was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Charles; sisters, Enid, Joan, and Nora; as well as his son-in-law, Dennis Draper. Left to celebrate Denis' life are his wife, Edith; children: Carol and her children, Kelli (Mike), Leah, Cheryl, Carolyn and David; Linda and her children, Laura (Pete) and David (Christy); Margaret (Bruce) and their children Curtis (Gorana) and Sarah (Chris); Elizabeth (Rod) and children Erin (Travis), Lindsey (Kyle) and Jaime (Dru); and John (Donna) and their children, Meghan and Jonathan; fourteen great-grandchildren; Denis' sister, Mavis, and his brother, William (Jan). Denis grew up in Prince Albert and joined the Prince Albert and North Battleford Militia in 1939. At the age of sixteen, armed with his Grade 10 education and his bugle, he joined the Regina Rifle Regiment in the Regina Armoury in June, 1940, an act that helped shape the rest of his life. He served with the regiment in Canada, England and North-West Europe until February 1946. Upon his return home, he joined the R.C.M.P. and after one and a half years, left that force to marry his sweetheart, Edith Quine. He joined the Regina City Police and attained the rank of Deputy Chief of Police and retired after 32 years of service in 1980. He then was a member of the National Parole Board for five years. Denis gave tirelessly to the community and his province. When he saw a need, he took action. He was instrumental in forming the Regina Police Boys' Band and the Mobile Family Services. He volunteered for the MS Society, several MS 150 bike tours, and raised almost $12,000 by riding in the annual bike tours for the Pasqua Palliative Care Unit. He was a Charter member of the Queen City Kiwanis Club, member of the Royal Regina Rifle Regiment Association, the Armisticians, the Regina YMCA, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #1, the Saskatchewan Safety Council, the South Saskatchewan Division of the Corps of Commissionaires, the Boy Scouts of Canada, the Regina Buffalo Days Committee, as well as serving on numerous other committees and boards. He was rewarded for his efforts and contributions to his community by being awarded The Good Servant Medal from the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, the Kiwanis Club Service Award in appreciation of life-time service to the community and country, the Regina Police Exemplary Service Medal and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan's Military Service Pin as a symbol of thanks for his service to our nation and our province. Most recently, in November, 2014, Denis was very proud to have been awarded the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour, the highest of honours bestowed by the Government of the Republic of France, attesting to Denis' courage and devotion to the ideals of liberty and peace. Denis loved people of all ages and one of his greatest passions was speaking to students of all ages, particularly at Remembrance Day services in Regina and throughout Saskatchewan. His commanding presence held students in awe as he made them aware of opportunities to build our city, our province, our country and our future by service to their country in all forms. Indeed, Denis was an icon in so many ways to so many people and because of him, the world is a better place. He exemplified dedication to his city, his province and his country. A Celebration of Life for Denis will be held at the Regina Armoury, 1600 Elphinstone Street, on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers are most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make a contribution in Denis' memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command Poppy Fund, 3079 5th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 0L6 or the Ranch Ehrlo Society, P.O. Box 570, Pilot Butte, SK, S0G 3Z0 or a charity of your choice. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com.

To all the Chisholm kids and their kids, our prayers are with you! On the one hand, there's a great ache being here without him; on the other is the comforting knowledge that he is with Christ and will hear that, "Well done" from God Himself. We will see him again!! See you Saturday. We also bring greetings from Cathie who is unable to make it.

To Edith & Family:

My Sincerest Condolences to all at this difficult time. It was while I was a member of the Police Boy's Band during the 60's that I got to know Denis. He was always kind, personable & a guiding force for all the members. That memory is forever etched in my memory. It was an honour to have had him as a friend.

My prayers are with you!

I was a member of the Regina City Police Boys Band in the 1950's when it was first formed by Officer Chisholm and I remember how proud he was of us young boys when we beat the renowned Lions Band back then. We played the overture from "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart and received very high marks. What Officer Chisholm did for the youth of Regina is remembered by many.
