David BARON Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post from Jul. 4 to Jul. 8, 2017.

DAVID WILLIAM BARON
David was born on January 24, 1946 in Vancouver and passed away peacefully in Regina on Sunday, July 2, 2017. David moved to Regina with his family at 17 and soon discovered he loved his new home on the prairies. He attended Martin Collegiate then went on to earn a Masters in Biology at the University of Regina. In 1974, David began his museum career and retired in 2009 as the Director of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. David loved to camp and he and Janice spent most vacations on the west coast. In 2001, David and Janice discovered Mesa, Arizona and when they retired it became their winter home. While involving himself in many activities such as carpentry, gardening, reading, radio control flying, relearning the intricacies of bridge, Rider football, volunteer work, and any repair imaginable, David made friends everywhere. He was our go-to guy for help with everything from nature to plumbing. We miss him already. David was predeceased by his parents, William and Eleanore Baron. He will be dearly missed by his darling wife Jan and their children, Tracey Fauchon, and Scott (Renee) Pestyk; grandchildren, Alexa and Andrew Fauchon, and Hailey Pestyk; sister, Rilla Blanchard, and brother, Richard Baron, and their families; aunt, Helen McElvain; Janice's extended family; his many close friends; and especially by their cats, Stanley and Jayco. A special thank you to the many doctors, nurses and other caregivers at the Pasqua and General Hospitals for making David's illness bearable. He so appreciated your compassion and care. A Celebration of David's Life will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 East Victoria Avenue, Regina on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at another time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in David's memory to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, the Regina Humane Society, the Salvation Army Haven of Hope or a charity of your choice. Jan, the Bushell side of the family share your grief of Dave's passing, but also the pride of having known him from day 1. He was always a caring and loving man respected by all he encountered. Personally my memories go back to our early teenage days on the playgrounds of Vancouver where we plied our love for football. He was always an adaptable fellow as demonstrated by his conversion to dreaded Riderism, a move that took many hours of thought for me to "forgive". In later years I came to appreciate Dave's true love of family as he maintained contact with his aging Aunt (my mother). Dave, thank you, you will be missed.
