Joseph A. Zanetti

Joseph A. Zanetti, 96, a lifelong resident of Cadogan, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Kittanning. Born April 23, 1918, in Cadogan, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Marie (Serafini) Zanetti. He was a member of St. Lawrence Church, Cadogan, where he was a former lector, also an usher, Eucharistic minister, choir member and member of the Holy Name Society for many years. He also was a member of the Latin American Club and Ford City Eagles. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army, and was a member of the American Legion. Prior to retirement, he was a meat cutter for 60 years, having worked at Zanetti's Market, Andy's Market and the Slovak Store, all in Ford City. He actively processed deer until he was 90 years old. During the holidays, many families enjoyed his homemade kohlbassi, hot sausage and breakfast sausage. He was the last surviving member of his birth family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Olesnanik Zanetti, whom he married in 1943, and who died in August 2010; brothers, Tullio, Daniel, Christopher and John; and sisters, Louise Foradori, Jane Chemelli and Mary Latini. Survivors include three sons, Joseph A. Zanetti Jr. and wife, Carol, of Ford City, Christian J. Zanetti and wife, Electa, of DuBois, and Timothy J. Zanetti, of Cadogan; a daughter, Marie Yobp and husband, Rob, of Kittanning; three grandchildren, Dr. Krista Zanetti, of Rockville, Md., Carianne (Vince) Contento, of Cheswick, and Angela (James) Brodsky, of St. Johns, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Kaylin Contento, and Bria Brodsky. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the MANTINI FUNERAL HOME INC., 701 Sixth Ave., Ford City. Prayer service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church, Cadogan, with Father Bryan Summers as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
