Sprayberry, Bettye R. (Melton) - Vandalia  
Bettye R. Sprayberry, 86, of Vandalia, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016, in Vandalia. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Sprayberry was born on Nov. 28, 1929, in Shreveport, La., the daughter of Thomas Marvin and Lela Agnes (McCown) Melton. She married James Elton Sprayberry on June 27, 1948, in Fouke, Ark. She was a retired manager for Vandalia Cable Co.; was a member of First Baptist-Unity Baptist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Vandalia Woman's Club; and was a former member of Vandalia Country and Golf Club. She is survived by her husband; son, Tom Sprayberry and his wife Karen of Blarisville, Ga.; daughter, Cindy and her husband Mike Scoles of Casa Grande, Ariz.; grandchildren, Sean, Jason, Brian, Shane and Emily; 13 great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Oralee Murray of Bossier City, La. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tommie Charles Melton.

Stewart, Guy L. - Smithboro  
Guy L. Stewart, 83, of Smithboro, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville, with the Rev. Florine Scott officiating. Burial was in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 1180 of Mulberry Grove. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: Greenville First United Methodist Church. Mr. Stewart was born on May 23, 1933, north of Mulberry Grove, the son of Grover and Maggie (Ruppe) Stewart. He married Maxine M. Tompkins on Jan. 16, 1960, at Pleasant Mound United Methodist Church. He was a farmer, and he and Maxine owned and operated Stewart's Strawberries in Mulberry Grove Township for 40 yeards. He was also an employee of Pet Incorporated, and later on was a highway maintainer for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army; he was drafted on May 20, 1953, and served in the 47th Armored Field Artillery Battalion of the Fifth Armored Division. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and was honorably discharged on April 28, 1955. He was a member of the Bond County Farm Bureau and Greenville First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife; a son, J. Todd Stewart and his wife Marti of Effingham; daughters, Beth and her husband Matt Pokojski of Centralia, and Becky and her husband Tim Caniff of Greenville; sister, Betty Stewart of Springfield; grandchildren, Melissa, Erin, Tyler, Will and Sam; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Samuel and John Stewart; and sisters, Cleta Stewart, Clara Stewart and Nina Oertwig.

Tucker, Norma I. (Black) - Shelbyville  
Norma I. Tucker, 88, of Shelbyville, formerly of Cowden, died at 4:15 a.m. on Friday, June 17. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Wallace-Carroll Funeral Home in Herrick, with the Rev. Paul Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green Township, Fayette County. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Tucker was born on Thursday, Jan. 26, 1928, in Bowling Green Township, the daughter of Oliver Jacob and Martha Suzaana (Pope) Black. She married Kermit Ivan Tucker on Dec. 8, 1951, in Herrick; he preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Beth Carsell of Shelbyville.
