Calvin H. Runge, 82, of St. Peter, passed away at 5:45 p.m. on Friday at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Memorials: St. Peter's Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
Mr. Runge was born on July 27, 1931, in St. Peter, the son of Edward and Bertha Grandt Runge. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
He married Doris E. Kroening on June 28, 1953, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altamont. They celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 28, 2013.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. For many years, he drove a milk route, and serviced farms with Dixie and Nutrena Feeds, and mobile feed grinding throughout South Central Illinois. He drove a school bus for the Farina LaGrove School District. Together, Calvin and Doris managed The Grub House General Store and Gas for 13 years, and retired from farming in 2000.
Calvin loved bowling, horseshoes, square dancing, playing cards, classic cars and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris; son, Mark Runge and his wife Shanna of Effingham; daughter, Connie and her husband Jamie Guyman of Mattoon; grandchildren, Brittany Lybarger of Heartville, John Alexander McCormick of Indianapolis, Ind., Tucker J. Denton of Effingham, LCpl Levi M. Robinson of the U.S. Marines, and Sean Alexander Robinson of Effingham; a great-granddaughter, Lily A. Pervinecki; brothers, Edward Runge and his wife Pat of College Station, Texas, Robert Runge and his wife Sandra of St. Peter, and Clyde Runge and his wife Nancy of Tuscola; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Runge of Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wendell Runge; and a grandson, Christopher Runge.
