Doris E. Kern, 80, of Vandalia, died at 7:54 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Daniel McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery in Pittsburg. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: First Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Kern was born on Sept. 23, 1932, in Muskegon, Mich., the daughter of Perry Edward and Marie Louise Delmoulin Davis. She married Calvin Dean Kern on Aug. 4, 1949, in Morganfield, Ky.; he died on Aug. 22, 1999.
She was retired from John Crane Packing in Vandalia after 26 years, and was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia.
She is survived by a son, John David Kern and his wife Cathy of Champaign; daughter, Rebecca Marie "Becky" and her husband Paul Schaub of Brownstown; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a sister.
