Floyd A. "Mert" Deverick, 86, of Vandalia, died at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with the Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating and military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Deverick was born on Dec. 6, 1926, in Vandalia, the son of Noah and Edna Trexler Deverick. He and his wife Helen "June" Deverick, were married on July 4, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark.
He worked for the railroad, and was a member of Crown Point Community Church in rural Vandalia, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 in Vandalia and VFW
Post 3862 of Vandalia. He served in the Army
during World War II
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Kimberley Deverick of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Russell Deverick and his wife Eleanor; sisters, Lucille Smith and Betty Stinebring; and grandchildren, Stefanie Fair and Jennifer Fair.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd and Clarence; and a sister, Lois.
