Harold Clarence Thoman, 76, of Oregon, Ill., formerly of Ramsey, died at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Tim Logue officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Mr. Thoman was born on March 18, 1936, in Ramsey, the son of John and Virginia Poland Thoman. He married Shirleen Thomas on July 3, 1999, in Vandalia.
He worked construction, and was a farmer and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Vera Baptist Church in Vera, VFW Post 3862 in Vandalia, Masonic Temperance Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M., AINAD Temple and Vandalia Shrine Club; and a former member of Vandalia Moose Lodge No. 1447. He served in the Army.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Connie and her husband Mike Hobler of Vandalia, Sherri and her husband Scott Workman of Vandalia, and Sandra and her husband Troy Gibson of Ramsey; stepson, Gordy Prentice and his wife Andrea of Rockford; stepdaughter, Annette Speck of Rockford; brother, Herbert Thoman and friend Judy Critcheloe of Vandalia; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Karen Thoman; and a brother, Donald Thoman.
