Jesse Neal Oldfield, 64, of St. Elmo, passed away at 5:26 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., surrounded by his family.
Burial arrangements may be made at a later date. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo. Memorials: St. Elmo Lions Club or Friendship Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Oldfield was born on Sept. 11, 1949, in Vandalia, the son of Jesse J. and Mary V. Pate Oldfield. He married Mary Ann Warhoover on Oct. 9, 1970, in O'Fallon.
He was a tire representative for Oldfield Tire in Effingham and Vandalia. Jesse and his wife owned Mary Ann's Restaurant in St. Elmo for 18 years. In his lifetime, he liked to go golfing, bowling and fishing. His most enjoyment in life was his family, friends and, most of all, his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; son, James Oldfield and his wife Daphne of St. Elmo; daughter, Michelle Oldfield of St. Elmo; brother, the Rev. Orin Sampson and his wife Patti of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Jean Harper of Flagg Staff, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Zeke Sampson.
