M. Jo Swinehart, 65, of St. Elmo, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham after a long illness.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials: E.A.R.S., Hospice or donor's choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.giesekingfh.com.
Mrs. Swinehart was born on Saturday, June 14, 1947, in Perrysville, Pa. She was the daughter of Robert Culbertson and Helen Heiber Garvin. She married Jim Swinehart on Nov. 7, 1964, in Wooster, Ohio.
She received her bachelor's degree in sociology, with a minor in psychology, from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla., in 1989. She was listed in Who's Who Among College Students as a result of her high grade-point average. She worked for Hospice of Lincolnland, Lakeland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and, most recently, as a case worker for Senior Services of Fayette County.
She enjoyed bass fishing, auctions, garage sales, resale shops, craft shows and spending time with her family. She adored her grandbabies and watched after them every chance she got. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her husband; children, Kelly and her husband Randy Orr of St. Elmo, Marni Swinehart of St. Elmo and Nicholas Swinehart of rural Brownstown; granddaughters, Nicole Flowers of St. Elmo and Kolbi Swinehart of Brownstown; great-grandson, Bryson Arnold of St. Elmo; brother, Bob Culbertson and his wife Becky of Skaneateles, N.Y.; sister, Pat and her husband Hugh Rooney of Richmond, Va.; stepfather, Edgar Garvin of Wooster, Ohio; and her special feline friend, Maggie.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
