Richard A. Murfin, 96, of Vernon, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka, with the Rev. David Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour before services on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Vernon Cemetery.
Mr. Murfin was born the son of Curtis and Lillian Dale Murfin. He married Marguerite Sarah Gillespie on Oct. 7, 1939, in St. Charles, Mo.; she died on Nov. 1, 2005.
He was a farmer, and he drove a school bus for the Patoka School District for approximately 50 years. He enjoyed hunting and training his bird dogs, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and he loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by sons, Charles Murfin and his wife Sandra of Vernon, Tom Murfin and his wife Myrna of Vernon, and Steve Murfin and his wife Susan of Salem; sister, Margaret Lawrence of Vernon; brother, Vance Murfin of Vernon; grandchildren, Lori Easton of Patoka, Tim Murfin of Patoka, Clay Murfin and his wife Andra of Vernon, Sara Beth and her husband Mike Frailey of Brownstown, Stacey and her husband Tyler Lux of Salem, Shelley and her husband Kyle Rose of Salem, and Scott Murfin and his wife Jamie of Tamaroa; great-grandchildren, Cassie and her husband Jeff Huffman, Ethan Easton, Megan Duff, Chandler Martin, Matt Murfin and his wife Alyssa, Luke Murfin, Haley Frailey, Emily Frailey, Curt Frailey, Addy Rose, Silas Lux and Ben Lux; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Lila Crothers; and grandchildren, Stefanie Murfin and Curt Murfin.
