Sherrie E. Thompson, 56, of Vandalia, died at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at First Christian Church in Brownstown, with Randy Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in Griffith Cemetery in rural Brownstown. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church. Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home in Brownstown was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: The family. Mrs. Thompson was born on Thursday, Oct. 17, 1957, in Hillsboro, the daughter of John L. Sr. and Muriel Harding Helfey. She married James L. Thompson Sr., and they celebrated 38 years of marriage together.
She was a homemaker and mother, and a member of First Christian Church in Brownstown.
She is survived by her husband; sons, James L. Thompson Jr. and John Thompson, both of Vandalia; mother, of Vandalia; brother, Raymond Hefley of Vandalia; uncle, Jim Hefley and his wife Ann Lou of Hillsboro; mother-in-law, Betty Burnheimer of Brownstown; brother-in-law, Kenny Thompson and his wife Vivienne of Steger; and niece, Brandi and her husband Clayton Rhodes of Brownstown.
She was preceded in death by her father; brother, John L. Hefley Sr.; son, Joey Thompson, in infancy; and an uncle, Jim Harding.
