Dale R. Freeman, 88, of Vandalia, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, with Dr. Roger Grimmett officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home and one hour before services on Sunday at the church. Memorials: First United Methodist Church or Friends & Families of Fayette County Hospital, both of Vandalia. Online condolences may be expressed at www.millerfh.net.
Mr. Freeman was born on Jan. 27, 1926, in Champaign, the son of Lester R. and Glenna Dow Price Freeman. He married Norman "Jean" Chamberlin on June 20, 1948, in Urbana.
He was a manager for AT&T and a self-employed telephone technician, and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 and First United Methodist Church, both of Vandalia; former trustee and past president of Vandalia Park District Board; member and former president of Vandalia Rotary Club; and chairman, American Red Cross blood drives.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Debby and her husband Michael Themig of Vandalia, and Jody Little of Winter Garden, Fla.; grandchildren, Matthew Little and his wife Jessica of Granite City, John Themig and his wife Katie of Dallas, Texas, Karen and her husband Matthew Black of Vandalia, and Kim and her husband Bryan Cearlock of Vandalia; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Hunter, Brady, Blake, Ella, Chase, Ava, Marley, Teagan, Lane and Hudson; and niece Rosemary Summers of Palatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
