Obituary

Gary F. Siebert, 70 years, of Eldorado, passed away August 27, 2013.
Masonic services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Eldorado High School cafeteria, with funeral services to follow, with the Rev. Randy Plunkett officiating. Burial was in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation was held after 5 p.m. on Thursday at the EHS cafeteria. Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Gary F. Siebert Memorial Scholarship. Mr. Siebert was born on May 3, 1943, the son of Foster and Delores Cripe Siebert. He married Dicy Dillard on March 10, 1990.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Gary's greatest enjoyment in life was raising his children, Amy and J.R., and in the most recent years, time spent with his grandchildren, Loxton and Gabriel. They loved to go on tractor rides with Papa, and he adored them.
He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from SIU Edwardsville, and his education specialist's and education administration degrees from Eastern Illinois University. He was working toward his doctorate at Oakland City University.
Gary's greatest professional achievement was serving as Eldorado's school superintendent for 27 years and Galatia's school system for eight years.
He was very dedicated and loved his job. Gary served his early years as school superintendent in other districts, totaling 47 years in education. He was also an instructor for many years at Southeastern Illinois College and Frontier Community College.
Gary was a active member of the community. He was serving as a member of the Saline County Board, where he has served for 15 years. He also served on the Police Pension Board, Eldorado Rotary Club, Eldorado Sons of the American Legion Post #169, Eldorado Men's Club, Galatia Masonic Lodge #684 A.F. & A.M, and Saline County Sheriff's Association, as well as being long-standing member and former president of the Saline County Chamber of Commerce and former president of the WOVSED Board.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Amy and her husband T.J. Zurliene; a son, Gary Siebert Jr. of Eldorado; a brother, Danny Siebert and his wife Lena; a son/grandson, Gabriel Siebert; a son Stephen Siebert; and stepchildren, Sherry and her husband Jim Williams, Kevin Stricklin, Donna and her husband Tim Stotlar, and Lia Milstead.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Loxton Zurliene, Maisee Siebert, Jeremy Williams, Tiffany and her husband Phil Nyberg, Jennifer and her husband Frankie Bourland, Greg Stricklin, Scott Stricklin and his wife Stormy, Anthony Stotlar, Jon Stotlar, Brista and her husband Justin Barrington, Brittany and her husband Kreig Taylor, Brandy Questelle and Michael Riden, Sarah Siebert, Justin Siebert and Stephen Siebert Jr.; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
