Alan N. Ragel, 67, of Loogootee, died at 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, in his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Macedonia Christian Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in Maplewood Center in St. Elmo, with military rites accorded by St. Elmo American Legion Post 420. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Friday at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Memorials: National Kidney Foundation Association, American Diabetes Association or donor's choice.
Mr. Ragel was born on Dec. 1, 1944, the son of Willard D. and Pauline O'Dell Ragel. He married Katherine L. Carter on July 27, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was a member and deacon at Macedonia Christian Church, a 40-year member of the St. Elmo Fire Department, former member of St. Elmo School Board and Lake Land College Foundation and 52-year trustee on the Wheatland Township Board. He loved to collect and restore old farm toys. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife; children, Todd Neil Ragel of Sarasota, Fla., Tasha and her husband Todd Dial of Loogootee, Sabrina and her husband Jayson Porter of St. Elmo, and Garris Moreland and his wife Laura of Beecher City; sisters, Lois and her husband Merle Lash, and Donna and her husband Randy Boschulte, both of Springfield; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Carl Dwaine Ragel and Aridth Elaine Rector.
