Bessie Mary Rhoades, 75, of Paducah, Ky., formerly of Vandalia, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, Ill.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Memorials: or . Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Bessie was born on April 19, 1941, in Hope, Ark., the daughter of Bessie and Frank Parton. She was raised by her grandparents, James and Mary Mote, after her mother's passing.
She was once employed by Crane Packing in Vandalia and by a group home in Salem, where she was a special needs aide. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vandalia. She was also a breast cancer survivor and loved to volunteer and participate in . She also enjoyed spending time with her only daughter, Julia.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Meyer of Kevil, Ky.; son-in-law, Robert "Jaycen" Meyer of Kevil, Ky.; twin sister, Dessie Whiley of Chicago; nephew, Wayne Bryant and his wife Kathy of Cleveland, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, four brothers and a sister.
