Betty I. Gudgel, 91, of Vandalia, formerly of Hull, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Vandalia.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Aker Chapel Cemetery in rural Hull. Memorials: Aker Chapel Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.millerfh.net.
Mrs. Gudgel was born on Sept. 24, 1925, in Hull, the daughter of Harvey H. and Katherine H. (Pfrimmer) Lewton. She married Marvin L. Gudgel on Nov. 27, 1943, in Hannibal, Mo.; he passed away on April 25, 2001.
She was a member of Hull Methodist Church in Hull, and a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Star and 600 Bowling Club. Betty was a retired postmaster at Hull Post Office in Hull, and loved playing bridge and collecting antiques.
She is survived by her daughters; Cheryl Niffen of Nauvoo and Janice Jackson of Payson; grandchildren, Chad Jackson, Joseph Niffen and Andrea Massey; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Nestrick Sommer and family of Vandalia; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Robert Niffen Jr.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Maurice and June Gudgel; and brother-in-law, Harold Nestrick.
