Betty I. McDowell, 90, of Vandalia, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, in Vandalia.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Friends and family may gather at the cemetery at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Memorials: First Christian Church, Bryan Manor in Centralia or a church of donor's choice. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. McDowell was born on July 21, 1925, in Fayette County, the daughter of George D. and Lucinda Caroline (Radcliff) Edwards. She married James W. McDowell on Nov. 2, 1945, in St. Elmo; he passed away in 1993.
She was co-owner/operator of McDowell's Service in Vandalia and was affiliated with First Christian Church in Vandalia.
She is survived by sons, Jerry McDowell and his wife Connie of Vandalia, Steven McDowell and his wife Ellen of Louisville, Ga., and Lynn McDowell and his wife Shelley of Vandalia; daughters, Connie and her husband David Chapman of Vandalia, and Carolyn and her husband Nelson Powell of Brownstown; brothers, Lawrence Edwards and his wife Louise of Springfield, and Robert Edwards and his wife Ann of Pipe Creek, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sheryl McDowell; and brothers, Darrell, Larry and Jackie.
