Betty J. Slater, 85, of Vandalia, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, in Altamont.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: Second Chance Animal Rescue in Vandalia. Online condolences may be expressed at
Mrs. Slater was born on July 17, 1930, in Assumption, the daughter of Carl David and Florence (Pierce) Davidson. She married Dale Slater on Sept. 3, 1988, in Carlyle; he passed away on Oct. 14, 2003.
She was formerly employed at Peterson Spring Co. in Greenville and was a retired waitress. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Vandalia. Betty loved horses, raising and showing Tennessee Walkers.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Smith of Vandalia; granddaughter, Vicky Dunn and Stephen of Belleville; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Dunn and Emily Dunn of Belleville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and an infant brother.
