Bill E. Thacker, 86, of Mulberry Grove, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at his home.
Public graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown. Memorials: Mulberry Grove United Methodist Church. Young Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at
Mr. Thacker was born on May 12, 1929, in Bond County, the son of Jacob and Ada (Rachow) Thacker. He married Betty J. Shepard on Oct. 9, 1948, in Morganfield, Ky.; she preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 1991.
He grew up north of Mulberry Grove and moved into town after his marriage. He and his wife then moved to north of Mulberry Grove in 1958. He had worked mainly as an oil field pumper, but had also been a heavy equipment operator and had also worked as a supervisor at Van Tran Electric. He served for more than 20 years as Bear Grove Township Road Commissioner. He loved raising and trading horses. He was a member of the Gilham Lodge #809 A.F. & A.M. and Mulberry Grove United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his children, Dennis E. Thacker of Mulberry Grove, Russell Todd Thacker of Vandalia and Peggy J. Sohn of Greenville; grandchildren, Tara and her husband Terry Marcordes of Chatham, Kimberly and her husband Stuart Snow of Greenville, Carissa and her husband Jason Waters of Fletcher, Okla., and Cody Thacker and his wife Holly of Effingham; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Lloyd Thacker, Wilber Thacker, Paul Thacker and Robert Thacker; and a sister, Virginia Smith.
