Bob Bowles, 81, a loving husband, father and grandfather, died Friday, May 23, 2014, peacefully at his home in Granbury, Texas.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Burial will be in Acton Cemetery. Visitation was to be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bowles was born Nov. 16, 1932, in Cabool, Mo., the son of Leonard and Eva Bowles.
He attended high school in Vandalia and college in Fulton, Mo. He was drafted into the Army in 1953, serving a tour of duty in Korea and two separate tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter and airplane pilot. He received numerous distinguished medals and retired in 1974 as a lieutenant colonel. He then went on to work for several different state agencies in Austin, Texas, and retired after 20 years. He loved to travel and most of all, he enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Nellie Bowles; daughters, Lisa and her husband Ricky Robertson of DeCordova, Texas, Karen and her husband David George of Austin, and Julie Morgan of Burleson, Texas, and her children Cole and Keely; and sister, Kay and her husband Chuck Hammond of Mt. Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Bowles; mother, Eva Bowles; first wife and mother of his children, Dodie Bowles; and a grandson, J.J. Huddleston.
