Brian S. Garner, 49, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:34 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia, with the Revs. Joseph Havrilka and Barry Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in Salem at a later date. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Mr. Garner was born on March 26, 1965, in Salem, the son of Marvin and Virginia Lee Garner.
He was a respiratory therapist at Utlaut Memorial Hospital in Greenville and St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, and formerly worked at Walmart in Salem. He was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia; Knights of Columbus Council No. 4630 of Vandalia; Civil War Re-enactment Groups 81st IL, 15th AR and 22nd NC; Fayette and Marion counties Genealogical Societies.
He is survived by his mother; paternal grandmother, Faye Garner of Metropolis; and uncles, aunts and various extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father.
