Burl "Dean" Walton, 90, of Vandalia, passed away at 3:26 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at his home.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials: Crown Point Community Church or Fayette County Health Department Hospice. Mr. Walton was born on April 8, 1926, in Vandalia, the son of John William and Laura Elizabeth (Garland) Walton. He married Rotha L. Reavis on Feb. 24, 1953, in Ramsey.
He served in the U.S. Navy, worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local No. 520 out of Granite City, and was a member of Crown Point Church and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 in Vandalia. Dean loved fishing and anything outdoors. He did not have any biological children of his own, but he was a father figure and uncle to many in the community.
He is survived by his brother, Kenny Walton and his wife Bev of Vandalia; sisters, Margaret Aldridge of St. Elmo, Sue Gilmore of Staunton and Joy Orr of Vandalia; nephew, Jay "Butch" Reavis and his wife Sharon of Vandalia; and many more nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and John Walton; and sister, Marcella Bauman.
