Caroline Sue Drewes, 72, of Colorado Springs, Colo, formerly of Fayette County, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at a hospital in Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in 4125 Constitution Ave., Colorado Springs, Colo. A luncheon reception will follow at Hillard Hall at the church. Mrs. Drewes was born on July 16, 1943, in Fayette County, the daughter of Pearl and Glovina (Augustine) Gelsinger. She attended school in Vandalia, and later married Gerald L. "Gerry" Drewes on Jan. 1, 1961, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in St. Peter.
Together, Sue and Gerry raised a family, and Sue provided day care for many children through the years; she eventually retired from Checks Unlimited.
She, with her husband, was a model railroader and was active in Youth in Model Railroading. She was a gold prospector, and a member and two-time president of The Gold Prospectors of Colorado, as well as the Colorado State Champion Gold Panner for a number of years. Sue and Gerry were long-time members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was a beautiful woman of strength and character, and will be best remembered as the very center of her cherished family. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her beloved husband; two daughters, Teresa Drewes and Christina "Chris" Kiefer; grandchildren, Gerald Godbold, Elyssa (jesse) Robbins, Charles Godbold, Shauna Mackey and Christopher Kiefer; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda and her husband Ed Morgan of Bradenton, Fla., Sharon and her husband Bill Springer of Effingham, and Jerri and her husband Don Schumard of Monticello.
