Charles A. 'Chuck' Forbes, 67, Vandalia
Charles A. ""Chuck"" Forbes, 67, of Vandalia, passed away on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, in Effingham.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with Dr. Ben Foxworth, the Rev. Joe Lawson and the Rev. Ernest Flowers officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in rural Fillmore. Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday and one hour before services on Friday at the church. Memorials: Bethel Baptist Church, Rehoboth Church Camp or Lighthouse Pregnancy Service & Health Center. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Forbes was born on Aug. 26, 1949, in Taylorville, the son of John Edward and Elizabeth Ann (Ryan) Forbes. He married Janet K. Spears on Oct. 6, 1972, in Bloomington; she passed away on Feb. 15, 2008. He married Jacqueline Mae Shimmin on Nov. 26, 2011, in Glenview.
He retired from Orgill in Vandalia after 20 years and was a farmer. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and served on the board of Lighthouse Pregnancy Service and Health Center, both of Vandalia. Chuck was the first one in his family to graduate from college.
He is survived by his father, of Taylorville; wife; sons, Doug Forbes and his wife Christy of Vandalia, and David Forbes and his wife Sarah of Marshall; grandchildren, Abigail, Anna and Isaac; brothers, Mark Forbes and his wife Debbie of Morrisonville, and Bryan Forbes and his wife Patti of Mahomet; sisters, Kathy and her husband Dennis Beckmier of Humboldt, and Ronda and her husband John Carl of Glendale Heights; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother; first wife, Janet K. (Spears) Forbes; and an infant brother, John Ray Forbes.
