Charles Eugene "Geno" Cearlock, 60, of Vandalia, passed away at 12:58 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at his home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Augsburg Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier, with the Rev. Josh Frazee officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia and one hour before services on Saturday at the church. Mr. Cearlock was born on April 20, 1955, in Vandalia, the son of William and Beatrice A. (Brauer) Cearlock. He married Karen Graumenz on Nov. 8, 1975, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
Geno retired as a lieutenant from the Vandalia Police Department, where he had been employed for more than 30 years. He started out as a patrolman, and also taught Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) and investigative procedures. He was a member of Augsburg Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier.
He is survived by his wife; mother; sons, Steven Cearlock, and Bryan Cearlock and his wife Kim, both of Vandalia; daughter, Susan and her husband John LaMonica of Vandalia; grandchildren, Autumn and Lauren Cearlock, Chase and Lane Cearlock, and Isabella LaMonica, all of Vandalia; brothers, John Cearlock and his wife Barb, and Jeff Cearlock and his wife Lori, both of Vandalia; sisters, Julie and her husband Alan Rothe of Lino Lakes, Minn., Jenny and her husband Duane Guerrettaz of Farina, and Jackie Willis of Vandalia; and brother-in-law, Larry Hoffek of Vandalia.
He was preceded in death by his father.
