Chris Coburn (Durbin) Mars, 53, of Vandalia, died at 10:48 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, in the emergency room at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Per the wishes of Chris and her family, her body was cremated. A vigil will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Mother of Dolors Catholic Church Parish Hall, and visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the parish hall. Mrs. Mars was born on Aug. 9, 1959, in Vandalia, the daughter of Bob F. and Jean Coburn Durbin. She married Michael "Mike" Mars on Oct. 1, 1977, in Vandalia.
Chris worked at Crane Packing for 18 years before she decided she would be a stay-at-home mom. Once the kids were older, she went back to work as a cook at Vandalia Elementary School. She was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Our Sorrowful Mother's Ministry, Council of Catholic Daughters and Ladies of the Moose Lodge No. 1447, all of Vandalia.
She is survived by her husband; father, Bob Durbin and his wife Eva of Vandalia; sons, John Mars and his fiancé Kelcey Elder of Vandalia, and Seth Mars and special friend Courtney Tinker of Vandalia; daughter, Jordan Mars and special friend Zackary Betti of Vandalia; brothers, Max Durbin and his wife Debbie of Grantsville, Utah, and Scott Durbin and his wife Kathy of Owaneco; grandchild, Aiden Elder of Vandalia; parents-in-law, John and Elizabeth Mars of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Beth Contrad of Colleyville, Texas, Pam and her husband John Vogt of Tulsa, Okla., Kathy Mars and friend Alvin Atkinson of Tulsa, Okla., Martha Mars of Tulsa, Okla., and Jane and her husband David Penuel of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brothers-in-law, John Mars and his wife Sherri of Jenks, Okla., Rob Mars and his wife Pam of Olathe, Kan., and Mark Mars of Colleyville, Texas; nephews and nieces, Matthew Durbin and his wife Lisa, Adam Durbin and his wife Kylea, Joni and her husband Jeremy Forson, Eric Vogt, Miranda Mars, Nathan Mars and his fiancé Alexis, Ashton McClulley, Jacob Penuel and William Peneul; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Chandler, Dathan and Lizzie Forson, Alex and Madeline Conrad, and Ava Mars.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a nephew, Matthew Conrad.
