Darvin Carlton Prouty, 82, of Brimfield, formerly of Vernon, died at 12:01 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at his residence.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Elmwood United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. Memorials: Elmwood United Methodist Church or . Mr. Prouty was born on Jan. 30, 1931, in Vernon, the son of Glen and Alice Binnion Prouty. He married Karen Steinke Henry on Aug. 15, 1998, in Kirkwood.
He was the former owner of Yates City Telephone Co.; owned and managed an apartment building and tavern in Elmwood; built and owned the Yates City Post Office; and served on the Yates City Town Council.
He was a member of Elmwood United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee for many years. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War, and was a member of American Legion Post 452 in Brimfield. He was a member of Yates City Lodge 448 A.F.&A.M. and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria. He enjoyed traveling by motorcycle and RV, wintering in Arizona with friends.
He is survived by children, Jeff Henry and his wife Danielle of Milan, Shelley and her husband Brian Perkins of Alexis, Randy Thurman of Galesburg, Kim and her husband Dawn Thurman of North Liberty, Iowa, Lisa and her husband Allen Smith of Knoxville, Tenn., and Daphne and her husband Sandy Sanders of Irmo, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wives Joan and Rose.
