David Franklin Coleman, 86, of Bluff City, passed away at 11:49 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Aperion Care in St. Elmo.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Brownstown, with Mick Rouledu officiating and military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia and Brownstown VFW Post 9770. Mr. Coleman was born on May 8, 1931, in Columbia, Mo., the son of Benjamin Emmett and Martha Emily (Sappington) Coleman.
Over the years, David worked in various area of the HVAC industry, beginning after high school helping his brother install freezers in Missouri. He later moved to San Diego, Calif., where he applied his machinist knowledge from his Navy service to various jobs. While in California, David met and married Jeanette Koch, on Oct. 4, 1958. In 1975, David bought Sacramento Refrigeration, and for many years, he owned and operated the business. David and his family retired and moved to Brownstown in the early 1990s. He was a member of Church of Christ in Vandalia, Brownstown VFW Post 9770, Masonic Temperance Lodge and Refrigeration Service Engineers Society.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Bonnie Petersen and Debbie Coleman; grandchildren, Samantha Coleman, Jessie Jackson, Dalton Coleman-Scott, Jennifer Bishop, Felicia Hostettler and Emily Petersen; great-grandchildren, Brody, Lourelai, Lilly, Presley, Daniel, Gabriel, Rorie and Harper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Lee Coleman; brothers, Guy Coleman, BE Coleman, Archie Lee Coleman and Emmett Coleman; and a sister, Myrtle Dothage.
