Dean Thomas Ruff, 86, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Per his wishes, his remains will be cremated and burial will be at a later date. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Ruff was born on April 20, 1930, in Fairbury, the son of Glen and Bernice (Tinges) Ruff. He married Doris Diveley Plunkett on July 25, 1988.
Dean, along with his brothers, in 1957 started Long Point Grain, later to be known as Ruff Brothers Grain. He farmed most of his life, retiring in 1999. He was affiliated with the Methodist faith and was a member of the Livingston County Farm Bureau. In his free time, he loved to go fishing, and he enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include his wife; children, Dianne and her husband Kenneth Kuerth of Gridley, Linda and her husband David Sass of Streator, and Dale Ruff and his wife Jody of Long Point; stepchildren, Janesa and her husband Randy Whitener of Pinckneyville, and Jason Plunkett and girlfriend Stephanie Potts of Vandalia; brothers, Otis Ruff and his wife Marian of Streator, Gerald Ruff and his wife Janice of Streator, and Keith Ruff and his wife JoAnn of Pleasant Hill; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
