Delbert Dean Kistler Sr., 90, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Overcup Baptist Church in rural Bluff City, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. Memorials: Overcup Baptist Church. Online condolences may be shared at
Mr. Kistler was born on Sept. 4, 1924, in Vandalia, the son of Samuel and Nola Pilcher Kistler. He married Margene Hobler on Jan. 1, 1945, in Vandalia; she preceded him in death on April 3, 2012.
He was an Army veteran; member of Overcup Baptist Church and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia; and worked as a construction laborer and farmer throughout the years.
He is survived by sons, Delbert Kistler Jr., and Kent Kistler and his wife Robin of Vandalia; daughter, Kay and her husband Marlin Summers of Brownstown; grandchildren, Bryce Kistler and his wife Casey, Eryn and her husband Nick Meyer, and Kelly Jo and her husband Cody Gardner; and great-grandchildren, Miranda Meyer, Ella Faith Meyer and Brylee Kistler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and two sisters.
