Dennis E. "Denny" Gerkin Jr., 62, of Vandalia, passed way on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at his home in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Vandalia, with the Revs. Joe Lawson, Robert Weaver and Lowell Donnelley officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gerkin was born on July 9, 1952, in Vandalia, the son of Dennis Sr. and Rosemary "Rosie" Merriman Gerkin. He married Patricia A. "Tricia" Langston on Aug. 26, 1972, in Vandalia.
He was the owner/operator of Gerkin Insurance Agency Inc./State Farm Insurance Co. in Vandalia; a former member of the Vandalia Jaycees, Lions Club, Temperance Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A.M. and Vandalia Country Club, all of Vandalia; and was affiliated with First Baptist Church in Vandalia.
He is survived by his mother; wife; son, Dennis Gerkin III and Rebekah of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Lori and her husband Blake Pattillo of Altamont, Alicia and her husband Jeff King of Nixa, Mo., and Brandi Romero of Ozark, Mo.; brother, Jim Gerkin and his wife Rosalie of Washington, Ill.; and grandchildren, Peyton, Paige, Jordan, Langston, Hudson, Grant, Jaleyn, Leah, Levi, Jaxon, Maryn, Jessi, Liberty and Brielle.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Marianne Gerkin.
