Donald E. Walker, 82, of Shobonier, passed away at 2:14 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at his home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Jerry Bagwell officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with military rites accorded graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia and Brownstown VFW Post 9770. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday and one hour before services on Friday, both at the church. Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Walker was born on April 4, 1933, near Mattoon, the son of Sammie and Mary Ellen Sanders Walker. He married Judith A. "Judy" Johnson on March 19, 1971.
He served in the Air Force, and after his military service, he worked as an Illinois State Police trooper, and was the owner and operator of Walker Trucking and Walker Communications. He was a former farmer, raising cattle, pigs and horses. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Donald Shawn Walker and his wife Sharon of Louisville, Ky., and Kevin Guthrie and his wife Rita of Shobonier; daughters, Cynthia and her husband Mike Lagle of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Elizabeth Walker of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sondra Jo Walker; and a granddaughter.
