Donald E. Ragel, 73, of rural Vandalia, died at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at his home.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until time of services on Jan. 17 at the funeral home. Memorials: Second Chance Animal Rescue. Online condolences may be shared at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Mr. Ragel was born on Sept. 24, 1940, in Butler Grove Township, the son of Clyde R. and Helen M. Brewbaker Ragel.
He worked as a produce manager for TriCity and then as a foreman at Imco before retiring. He was an Army veteran, and was affiliated with Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia.
He is survived by daughters, Holly Norris of Vandlaia, and Heidi and her husband Daniel Upchurch of Kirkwood, Mo.; stepson, Kenny Gates and his wife April of Vandalia; sister, Many Jo and her husband Glen Summann of Brownstown; grandchildren, Natasha Grill, Cpl. Victoria Ragel, Gwyneth Upchurch and Madilyn Upchurch; and stepgrandchildren, Brady Gates, Bryce Gates and Lacey Gates.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean Ragel; and sister, Erma Stolte.
