Doris J. Goatley, 83, of Decatur, formerly of Vandalia, passed away at 12:39 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Hohlt and File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: Special Olympics or First Baptist Church. Mrs. Goatley was born on Jan. 20, 1931, in Pope Township, Fayette County, the daughter of Amon J. and Mary E. Lake Steiling. She married Melvin L. "Squirrel" Goatley on Dec. 24, 1948; he died on June 26, 1994.
She worked at Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Co. for 25 years, and later for Owens-Brockway, both in Vandalia. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vandalia. She loved quilting, and volunteered in the church nursery for several decades.
She is survived by a son, Jim Goatley and his wife Jill of Decatur; granddaughter, Julia and her husband Matthew Danbury of Macon; and great-grandsons, Brayden and Elijah Danbury, both of Macon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Lula Mae Williams, Loretta Schade and Bernice Summers.
