Obituary

Dorothy I. Cox, 93, of Patoka, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at her home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka. Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery in rural Vernon. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour before services on Wednesday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Bear Creek Cemetery, Patoka Ambulance or donor's choice. Mrs. Cox was born on Dec. 16, 1920, in Mulberry Grove, the daughter of Frank and Minnie Dugan Tompkins. She married John Cox on Oct. 12, 1940, in St. Charles, Mo.; he died on July 1, 1986.
Mrs. Cox was devoted to helping her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, and she especially loved her strawberry garden. She adored her family and treasured the memories made with them.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue and her husband Jim Herrin of Vernon; sons, Tom Cox and his wife Janet of Patoka, and Mike Cox and his wife Drusilla of Humboldt, Kan.; sister, Rotha Payne of Vernon; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Darlene Eyman; brothers, Horace, Claude, Dugan and Floyd Tompkins; and daughter-in-law, Connie Cox.
